I share similar experiences with Andy; as long as you pay attention to the wind and their behaviour you can work in really tight, like a matter of feet. We are required to wear orange on base now, but we are using the mottled orange that at least breaks up the solid field of orange. Birds sure don't like it though.
Pigs have dichromatic vision, they can see some colors but not all and are thought to have trouble seeing colors in specific spectrums. They, along with most other animals have fewer cone cells than humans. The majority of animals that fall into this category are thought to have the ability to see blue, green, and yellow but have trouble seeing red and orange.
Hogs have poor vision compared to other big game animals in general. I've had wild hogs completely oblivious to my presence at less than 20 yards but have also sent a few running for the hills at over 100 yards. They can pick up movement very well but have trouble if you remain completely still.
If you're careful it's possible to stalk hogs in the wide open to a certain extent. If they smell you it's all over!
Some animals such as birds (turkeys) for example have the ability to see more colors than humans. At least they can't wind you!
You have to wear it duck hunting now too.....good luck killing any ducks.
+1. 27 yds is my personal best, as 410 can confirm. And that was standing upright, without cover. With hogs, noise, wind and movement much more important than what your wearing.
Mottled? Where'd you get that stuff?
I stalked past two hogs at 10ft. Hogs didn't know I was there, and I didn't know hogs had moved 10ft to my right. Damn XD 5ft behind me cast a stone on my head. I turned around and saw XD locked and loaded on the hog. I scanned my eyes around for the bigger hog while XD's boomstick roared and smaller hog down. Bigger hog left dust trails rising up on top of thick brush down hill.
I also stalked a group to about 15 yards. I was standing in the middle of the trail when I shot at one hog. The rest of the hog stampede down my way on the trail. My semi-auto action jammed and I had to kick the first hog with my boot to steer the rest of the herd downhill. I was wearing an orange vest.

I think it was Cabelas. Here's an example. I've got a light vest, a heavy vest and a hat.
Nice Deer....and the vest is nice too.
Was that your 6.8 that jammed or some other auto? A properly broke in AR15 is dependable enough that our troops bet their life on it daily. It it was your 6.8 you might just need to run a few more rounds through it to smooth things out.
Take care,
David
