ORCHARD ORIOLE

Icterus spurious

Though they're named after their preference for nesting in scattered trees -- like orchards -- these common birds also have a fondness for fruit and frequent jelly feeders.

They're also frequently seen along roadsides and in weeds feeding on insects.

No matter their diet, the 9-inch birds need to stock up on calories while in Kansas.
