Animal stuck in Winchester Dam hole, rebar finally freed after delicate cajoling

The News-Review, (Roseburg)

March 26, 2002

It had to be rather embarrassing for a beaver to get stuck in a dam, but that’s what happened about 7:30 a.m. Monday at the Winchester Dam fish ladder, north of Roseburg. At center right, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fish biologist Chris Sheely is feeding a piece of cable and length of chain to the rebar that was trapping the beaver in the hole. The beaver was freed shortly after 11 a.m. when the rebar was bent by a chain and come-along, allowing the furry creature to escape. Also helping free the beaver was Bob Shearer, left, a self-employed contractor, and fish biologist Doug Sharp, right.
