Plan on hunting northeastern Oregon for Elk next week and I'm still debateing wether or not to bring the quad. Sometimes I think I should to get me to the edge of the wilderness areas and then hoof it in, then sometimes I think it will be useless and a burden I just have to keep an eye on. Whats do you guys think. RG

Personally, I like quads for scouting and getting familiar with an area. They're a great way to cover a lot more ground than with a jeep or truck very comfortably and also more effectively in inclement conditions. Quads will spook elk...much more so than deer.

I've been to a couple trails in Utah that only a quad or horses could use--no jeeps--boulders blocked jeep access. I'd imagine there may be a trail or two like that in Oregon too although I don't know of any trails specifically for quad use there.

It's the idiots that don't abide by the trail rules that give quads a bad rep.

For hunting though, I prefer to be at least half a mile from where the jeeps/quads can get to.

I hunt eastern Oregon every year and I run into the individuals mentioned in the last post. Humping my a%# on foot into the wilderness, only to be passed by someonre riding a quad past the barriers and scaring the game off... GRRRR...
If you stay on the MANY forest service roads you won't have a problem.
Just my 2cents.
