I have never been able to hunt elk and just dont think this is going to happen in cali. any time soon. so what i need help with is what is their in oregon for elk, i dont know much about oregon and have never hunted anywhere their. now i have done hours of reaserch this last week but havent found much about what im looking for.
the only thing that i want is i want it to be a wilderness area or equalivent because i want this to be a backpacking hunt and i would also want a decent chance of seeing animals. im open to bow or rifle, it can be a cow, bull or spike only hunt and tule or rockey mountain elk. i would however like it to be as close as possiable to cali. so i could get in a few scouting trips before the season but if i have to drive for the better odds i will.
well here are some of the places iv found in my reaserch but i would like to hear to some of the people who have been their before. i would like to hear if you have any recomenditions for me. blue mountains, wallowa mountains, sky lakes wilderness, Eagle Cap wilderness, North Fork John Day Wilderness, NW Eagle Cap Wilderness and Southern Strawberry Wilderness. I also saw that wenaha unit, alsea unit, Tioga or Saddle Mountain zone, and dixon unit are all good units or atleast on paper.

thanks, Eric

This is the area I would choose because the high ratings from oregon f&g website if things work out I'm gonna meet up with a guy next year who hunts this area.

cool, thanks. i think im going to spend this year scouting for good areas then apply for a hunt in 2010 since i don't want to eat a bowl of $450 tag soup. my $25 deer tag soup here in Cali is hard enough to get down. lol
