I was out last weekend deer hunting around Lake Nacimiento and only saw does all day. I figured with only an hour of light left, I'd head down to the pond and see if anything was going on. Heading down the road I saw about 6 hogs run across the road to a neighboring property and got real excited!. It wasn't more than 20 minutes after setting up at the pond that this piggy walked up with 3 kids in tow. I was with my brother in law and he said he didn't want to take one of the little ones (about 40 pounds) so I was on my own for the momma pig. She got a quick drink and quickly started to move on. I did one of those wistles followed by a "hey " to get her to stop. She was broadside and bam, deal closed! I took her to Specialty Meats in Paso Robles where the butcher offered to make boneless smoked hams, canadian bacon, honey cajun suasage and hot italian sausage. Did the deal with a 270 weatherby Mark V and a tall bipod at 60 yards.

At 40lbs those little ones should be alright on their own. It's the little striped footballs you want to leave the mommy alone for.

Nice looking hog.

Nice Hog and to be honest, the little ones probably would taste better. They are great rotiseried that size. Some people would have a prob with that and I understand that but they do taste good. I have done that two times and both times the porkers were alone and I figured didn't have a great chance of survival at that size in the mountain lion country where i was hunting.

A couple of weeks ago my buddy and I saw a mom with six babies about that same size (all red) with her. The only thing that kept her from going into the ice chest is she was looking a little worn out and thin.

Those little pigs will be in our sights next year...

Pigs everywhere seem to be eating real good this year, here in San Benito anyway lots of good feed in the hills. hummmmm Honey Sausage mmmm. Gives me ideas. But Alas there is nothing like a milk fed little 30-40 lb roaster on a trager grill smoke setting for about 12 hours........

Recipes sound good but it seems pigs are $300 to $400 nowadays per pig to kill since I do not have access to any land. I am not going to pay that much for a full grown let alone a squeller.

I would have attempted to whacked em all. Those 40lbers are by far the most delicious bbq your ever going to enjoy. We enjoyed one of them for Xmas dinner many times when I was a kid. Everyones got a right to their own ethical stance and there are some things you just can't do, like taking young deer. But hogs? I'm telling you don't pass one of those little guys up and try it for yourself, you'll see what I'm talking about.

In Florida they call a pig 40lbs or less a "Pocket Pig". Best eating size.

I hear this kind of C&*P all the time about killing a little baby piggie, oh my
how could you. Well here's a short list of ways I have or might be willing to.
1. With my bow
2. with my shotgun
3. run em down and stomp on em.
