California Duck Days will include trout fishing for kids.​
WINTER TREKKING

• Mike White will offer information on the best snowshoe routes based on his book "Snowshoe Trails of Lake Tahoe" during a free slide-show program 7-8:30 p.m. today at REI, 2425 Iron Point Road, Folsom; (916) 817-8944.

• The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will hold two free snowshoe hikes: the Valentine's Sunset Sweetheart Snowshoe Hike at 4 p.m. Saturday and the Family Fun Showshoe Hike at 10 a.m. Feb. 27, both at Tahoe Meadows. FISHING SPOT

The pond at Elk Grove Park (Elk Grove Florin Road in Elk Grove) will be stocked with rainbow trout for a free Fishing in the City program from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, presented by the state Department of Fish and Game.

Free loan of rods, bait and tackle will be provided.

SURVIVAL TRAINING

The Winter Adventure Program will cover winter survival techniques in an interactive demonstration from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at Crabtree Nordic Trailhead near Dodge Ridge Ski Resort.

The Summit Ranger District and the Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol present the free program for families, which will highlight "Ten Winter Essentials" and emergency shelters.

WETLANDS FESTIVAL

Workshops and field trips will draw visitors to Davis on Feb. 20 for California Duck Days.

The annual event designed for families will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters, 45211 County Road 32B, featuring an exhibit hall with interactive displays such as trout fishing for kids, duck calling and a live bat workshop. Cost is $20-$25 general, free for children younger than 16. Registration suggested for field trips.
