HAWK THIS WAY
The Solano Land Trust's tour of the Lynch Canyon Open Space will focus on raptor viewing led by raptor specialist Larry Broderick and Solano County park ranger Ted Armstrong.
The free trek will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There is a $5-per-vehicle fee. Located off the Hiddenbrooke/American Canyon exit from Interstate 80 near Vallejo, Lynch Canyon Open Space is open for interpretive tours on the third Saturday of each month.

LEARN TO SKI
Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is offering a beginner package for $35 for ages 13 and older, valid Sundays through Fridays.
It includes limited access lift ticket, rental equipment and a 2 1/2-hour lesson. The package is available online only at www.sierraattahoe.com, and quantities are limited. Some blackout dates apply.

TYING THE HOOK
How fly is your tie? American Fly Fishing Co. will hold free fly-tying demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays, and fly-casting demos at noon and 3 p.m. Saturdays through December at 3523 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento.
The one-hour demos concentrate on basic steps of tying flies that are used in Northern California waters.

Give your mind a workout as you explore the American River area during Saturday's Gold Country Orienteers meet.
Plan your route using a detailed map, compass and a set of clues that will navigate you from point to point at Rossmoor Bar in Rancho Cordova.
Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Courses start between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Cost is $6 general, $5 for GCO members, $2 for second map or course. $5 park fee.

Know the difference between a snood and wattle? Listen for wild turkeys on a guided walk through the Effie Yeaw Nature area at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The center is in Ancil Hoffman County Park, 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael. The program is free; park entrance fee is $5.
