SALMON FESTIVAL
The annual two-day American River Salmon Festival is on hiatus this year, but that doesn't mean folks have to miss out on entertainment and education. The East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District will host the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival in Knights Ferry, featuring a salmon obstacle course, fly-fishing demonstrations, exhibits and historic tours.
The free event will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Army Corps of Engineers Park on the Stanislaus River 12 miles east of Oakdale.

FALL NATURE TRIPS
Spot wildlife from trails and farm roads at the King-Swett Ranches open space in Solano County during a free guided tour from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Sutter Buttes are alive with fall bounty. "Wildlife in the Buttes" (Nov. 21) and "Birds in the Buttes" (Dec. 13) are among the Sutter Buttes hikes offered through the Middle Mountain's fall interpretive programs.

ECOLOGY FAIR
Join in fun activities while learning about science and nature at EcoKids, the seventh annual ecology fair hosted by the Sierra Nevada Deep Ecology Institute, noon-4 p.m. Sunday at the Imaginarium, 112 Nevada City Highway, Nevada City.
Cost is $7 general, free for children.

HONORING SERVICE
In recognition of Veterans Day, the Army Corps of Engineers will waive day-use fees for veterans, active and reserve service members and their families, at 10 recreation areas on Wednesday.
The Sacramento district's parks include Black Butte Lake in Orland; Englebright Lake in Smartville; New Hogan Lake in Valley Springs, Stanislaus River Parks in Oakdale, Martis Creek Lake in Truckee, Eastman Lake and Hensley Lake in Raymond, Pine Flat Lake in Sanger, Lake Kaweah in Lemon Cove and Success Lake in Porterville.
