TREK THE RIM TRAIL
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association's free guided hikes include Kingsbury to Spooner Summit, an all-day, 12-mile hike on Friday; the Galena Falls Loop, a six-mile hike toward Mount Rose that stops at a waterfall for snacks, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 12; and the Peak Bagging 101, a moderately strenuous six-mile hike from Tahoe Meadows to Rose Knob Peak, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 14. Registration is required.

A HIKE WITH HISTORY
Frank Maurer, executive director of the Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy, will share his knowledge of the Quail Ridge Reserve (on the peninsula at the southwest end of Lake Berryessa) during an interpretive walk from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Donations are accepted, and reservations are required: (530) 758-1387.
THINKING SNOW
If you're on patrol for ski deals, here are a few to consider:
• Purchase an adult all-day lift ticket at Boreal on any two days during the 2009-10 season and receive the third day free when you sign up for Boreal's IRide rewards card; www.rideboreal.com/ winter/rates/iride.
• Mt. Rose's Pink Slip is an unrestricted season pass valid for the 2009-10 season, including weekends and holidays with no blackout or voided dates, for $333 when purchased before Oct. 1; www.skirose.com.
• Save $95-$120 when you register by Sept. 21 for one of the Alpine Adventures ski trips to Whistler, Canada, Jan. 23-30; Bansko, Bulgaria, March 11-18; or Istanbul, Turkey, March 18-23; www.alpineadventuresonline.com.
EVENING TOUR
Dave Feliz, manager of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, will discuss restoration projects during the Moonrise in the Bypass tour from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
To participate, meet a few minutes before 5 p.m. in Parking Lot A in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area at the west end of the Yolo Causeway; $5 donation suggested, children younger than 12 and members of the Yolo Basin Foundation are free.

FOLSOM'S BIKE FESTIVAL
The Cyclebration Folsom Lake Bike Festival will include the Two Bridges Circuit Race through Historic Folsom and across the Rainbow Bridge and Lake Natoma Crossing.
Free activities take place 3-11 p.m. Sept. 11 at Cummings Family Park, 1775 Creekside Drive; 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 12 at Negro Bar State Park; and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 13 in the Folsom Historic District.
