I've been given a chance to get Owl with "Mode Dial for optimen use of fully automatic, flach on ," etc. advertised to be with Date printing. Cost would be a hair under $30. Is this a useable camera for home brews, and what are its drawbacks compared to the Owl PFs?  Any help??

If that's the camera with the little green dial then it'll work great. I've built 3 with the dial and they are my most reliable cams. I don't know why although it may have to do with the fact that they are wired directly to the sensor without any other "stuff". 1 switch to apply power to the sensor and 1 switch to complete the camera to sensor circuit. They work good although the flash distance is not as good as the PF but definately acceptable.
