Will be hunting near Rifle, CO and wanted to know if you guys could recommend any packing services around the area? I will be backpack hunting for Elk/Deer and could definitely use the help on the way out (if successful that is). Thanks in advance for the help.

Shot, I have not hunted CO in ten years, but my buddies and I always hunted just north of Rifle and Silt for elk and deer. When we needed a taxidermist in the evening we just called Tim's Tools in Rifle for the phone numbers of some folks and we were able to take our game right in and then drive back to Cali the next day. I would guess they would also have names of packers. Of course it would be best if someone here could give you some solid recommendations of someone they have used before, but if not, try a phone call. If Tim's Tools is still there under the same name (they also have a store in Silt I believe) they are an old fashioned store that sells hunting licenses, clothing, ammo, camping supplies, you name it. Don't know if you have ever been there, but it is loaded with hunters stocking up just before opening day and beyond. You may already know all of this, but just thought I would throw it out here anyway, just in case -- good luck!

Welcome guys. If you have never been to Rifle before, it is a small town. But next to Tims Tools there is a supermarket, hamburger joint, gas station, and real beer place. The town has some quaint shops. Be aware that the town shuts down very early in the evening, but Tims Tools stayed open late. If you need city type stores, go east just a few miles to Glenwood Springs, I believe that is where they have a large shopping mall with all the familiar stores. I just Googled Tims Tools and they are still operating in Rifle and Silt. Best of luck, when I can round up some dependable hunting buddies who can guarantee a vacation a year in advance, I will be back to CO in the same area -- otherwise I guess I may have to start making friends at the local retirement village and drag them along!!!

Timberline Sporting Goods will have info also. They are right up the road. Once you turn off the freeway and cross the river. They are on the corner in the old part of town. You can't miss them. Good people there. Where are you hunting? What zone? Private? I used to hunt rifle every year.
