I've been up there a time or two. Seems like every time I go up about noon it gets a bit windy. I usually fish the creek coming out of the lake on the way out. It's not a bad walk at all. A little steep in some places, but overall not too bad.
Nice country, and I've seen some decent deer while going in. Take your time, and start in the early morning.
Take a good amount of water, and don't drink from the lake or stream.
If you want to have some real fun with your son here's a secret spot.
Take the 120 from the 395 like you're heading towards the park.
Go past the forest service facility which will be on your left.
As the road flattens out watch for an open gate with a cattle guard.
That will be on your left as well.
Drive up to a small pond which is fed by Lee Vinning Creek.
Fish power bait, red eggs, thomas bouyants, and flies on a bubble.
DFG is pretty generous with this place.
Fun for the kids.
