This little guy flew right over me yesterday morning and landed in this dead tree. Wasn't even light out yet, so I had to use the flash. He didn't mind at all. I even had time to put the Teleconverter on, but with that on the flash didn't work near as well (the hood partially blocks it). This is with the 70-200 set in auto - zoomed to 200mm. I didn't get rid of the red eye - I kinda like it..

Awesome find Dave! I think I would go back when the light is better, there's a good chance that owl will be there.

I did go back and sure enough the little guy was there - all the shots I took his eyes were closed. Will try again next week when I'm on second shift. Do they have their eggs this time of year - I always hear owls had their young very early in the spring - but this seems real early.

I think it's still too early, although with the strange weather that we've had this winter, I wouldn't be surprised if a few tried. I took a picture of a male goldfinch last month which had full breeding colors... it's way too early for them.
