BY JONATHAN KARL
WASHINGTON, June 30, 2008

Israeli threats to Iran seen as bluff -- for now

By Alistair Lyon, Special Correspondent - Analysis

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israel seems content to keep Iran and the rest of the world guessing uneasily about whether and when it might attack the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.

It has done little to douse speculation stoked by a big Israeli air force exercise last month, an Israeli cabinet minister's remark that military action was "inevitable" and a prediction by former U.S. official John Bolton that this might occur in the final weeks of President George W. Bush's term.

If they do attack get ready for $200 a barrel of oil and gas at over $5. Good times. The little freak that is running Iran is up for reelection this year. Most hope he will get kicked to the curb and a more moderate mind will fill the ranks. If not Go Get'em Israel. Hell they just flew 100 planes and helos 900 miles out into the middle of the Med, as a warning. If I was Iran I would be a bit nervouse. Israel has top of the line USA build F-16's and F-18's. Iran has left overs from when they were a real country with ties to the west, e.g. 30 year old F-14's most of which they dont have parts to fix, some Soviet crap and a few aging french rust buckets. Thier pilots dont get any air time. My money is on Israel. Only thing Iran has is some good anti air capabilities. Biggest problem is Iran will fire anti ship missles into the gulf if attacked. Could hit a US Carrier, etc. if that happens its on....

The carrier is the heart of the battlegroup. It would be virtually impossible for any country to successfully make a hit on a US carrier.
