I just got back from my Texas exotic hunt. It was pretty cool. I tagged an axis on the first hunt, and then sat behind the lens the next 2 days!

This is the Sat afternoon, down by a windmill and water trough.

The next morning we saw black buck and wildebeast (they are HUGE animals, as big or bigger than a horse).

Very nice series that you have posted here. It sounds like you had a great hunt then looks like you had a ball behind the lens!

Chris, nice crisp shots! Is that the 70-200 f/2.8? or did you get a prime? I can't remember.....

EXIF info when you get the chance. Also, on the windmill did you have a star filter or did it come out that way naturally! Either way, Awesome shot!!

HideandWatch, it was a blast! It was the best of both worlds. I only wish I had the camera and big lens while I was hunting. I saw some very nice axis bucks. I didnt have the big lens attached so I didnt get any nice photos. (they were set up for a sweet silhouette too) Unfortunately I didnt see any axis bucks the rest of the weekend.

Zach, I was shooting the 400mm, f/2.8. man that lens is sweet! I didnt use a star filter, that's just the way that the moon came out. The atmosphere out here is clear and polution free, so long exposures come out much nicer than when I'm inside the city limits.

All photos (except the long exposure windmills) were shot in aperture priority @ f/2.8. Here is the exif for the first turkey, the others were the same, with the shutter changing accordingly.

Man, that is one sweet lens! I've rented it a few times, nothing but sharp, sharp photos. That thing weighs a ton though!

Awesome pictures~!!

Two questions:

1. What ranch did you go to?

2. Where the heck can I rent a 400 2.8 IS from? I only need something like that over my 100-400 about 2-3 times a year, but it would be nice to have some place in texas.

Thanks!
Kevin

Hi Kevin, I rented the 400mm from light tech, in Houston. (they dont answer email, its best to call).

I hunted on the Double T ranch, just outside of Rocksprings. I had a blast, and the host(s) was excellent!
