Pics Of Hogs Wild December hunt

Here are some pics of a hunt at Hogs Wild in December showing the type of terrain. I hope this clears up the arguments in regards to the fenced off area and it being a typical canned hunt. All these pics show a small part of the fenced area which I believe are 600 acres (I could be wrong on the acreage). Its very steep and was a nightmare hunting it in the rain all day saturday and half day on sunday. We managed two sows and two good size boars with nice cutters. I will be going back the weekend of april 29th. And this time I'm not coming home empty handed since I'm familiar with the terrain and areas now. Oh and thats not me in that pic with the boar.

Sac, amen to busting your butt in the steep and deep, that pig trail photo looked like the area just behind the saddle, we're going the last weekend of march, good hunting

That last pic reminds me of the kinds of photos my grandmother would take of us as kids. You'd see a wide shot of the front yard and the driveway, and then a fraction of someone's smiling head in the lower corner. Once in a while you'd get Grandma's finger blocking the whole frame.

Nice boar though! Grandma sure never shot one like that!

Raully, Nobody is saying it's easy to hunt that stuff. We've all busted butt crawling, falling,sliding, and gasping for breath in steep, thick stuff. And you're right, "canned" is too strong a word. It denotes a guy standing by a cage letting it open as the hunter nears. We all know it's not like that down there. Hell, it's probably fun as heck. 4 hogs in a weekend(how many guys?) is awesome. Whatever works for ya, to each his own. Whether you want to hang a sign under your mount saying "fenced" is up to you. It's a free country

Thanks for showing me what I am in for. I am not sure I had that kind of terrain in mind, but I do now! I will be there on the 20th of this month and am stoked. Nice hog too! Mabye by "fence" thay mean brush so thick no creature can pass through. That looks great!!! Did you get a shot on a hog there?

It was six guys with one of the fellas getting two that weekend. The weekend before, 4 other guys didnt even let one arrow fly. I hear from the Ranch owners that most people go home empty handed. I dont want to beat a dead horse to death just wanted show what it looks like there since nobody has ever posted pics of this place.
My point is simply that every Ranch I have hunted for pigs has a fence. Thats why its called private property right? I believe mainly the huge area is fenced so the hogs dont due damage to the rest of the ranch and adjacent propertys. Every one I have hunted with knows that I hate to have to pay to hunt and have always hunted private land by permission. But 99% of my hunts are on public land. There are huge numbers of Hogs up here in Santa Barbara area, but they are all on private land. I do know of a few public spots that are archery only that butt up against private land. You mainly hope that a Hog wonders off private and ends up on public. Similiar to your Lake Sonoma hunt. I just wont pay $500-600 to rifle hunt a pig around here. It is to easy. I think even with a bow on some of these ranches. The pig numbers are tremendous in numbers and the terrain is a lot easier. These ranches are considered non fenced hunts, but to me they are. There is bob-wired fence all around to keep the cattle in and I see no difference. Unfortunatley in california almost all pig hunting is done on private land because thats where the pigs are. This is the cards we have been delt. So with that said not many of us can drive hundreds of miles and spend as much time in the woods looking for small pockets of wild pigs to hunt as others. One day when I have time to scout I would love to do a Lake Sonoma hunt or FHL. But until then this place rocks for an archery only hunt.

Those are tough odds! That will make success there that much sweeter. I have hunted some of the public land up around the Lake Cachuma area in Santa Barbara.....for nothing. We did see sign on some private land there, you are right they are there in numbers. I would like to hunt there again when my hog hunting skill level is higher and I have done a bit more homework on the area. Thanks again for posting the pics!

RAULLY, don't wait to scout, get on over to Fort Hunter L and do some hunting. depending on which TA's are open Deedy at Bryson Hesperia lodge will send you in the right direction.

Thats what I have been reading. I'm very interested in that hunt. As soon I get some free time I'm there.

Oh by the way. The pic of that boar does it no justice. It was close to #200 pounds and had some good cutters.
