Here is the picture of the skull plate. Nothing to write home about, but I guess that any deer taken with a bow could be called a trophy. The animals were having a field day, not much meat left. That makes me feel good that even if my stomach will be empty of backstrap steaks, something benefitted.

About the shot placement.

The shot could have been a tad lower, however, it was set for a double lung hit. Here is a picture of my Spitfire broadhead that did not open. I had a good shot after all. Like I had mentioned, everything happeded so fast, it was hard to tell where the arrow hit.

I am shooting a Champion Storm bow set at 60 lbs. I shoot 26 1/2 inch Gold Tip carbon arrows equipped with spitfire broadheads (first time trying them).
The bow shoots 287 fps. It has plenty of energy to open the head. For some reason it didn't. I though that maybe the blades closed back up, but looking at the picture and entrance wound on the deer, you can tell that they never opened

Is it time to switch back to fixed blades? What to you guys think.

On a different note. I didn't do any good hunting Saturday but saw something that I have never seen before on our property. I am buck hunting (for now) and had 11 does, all together, come past my stand at once. I never have seen so many deer travelling together at one time before. Maybe later in the year they group up, but now? It was a sight to see.

Take care everyone.

Ahgggg! I'm using spitfires too

I've not taken anything with them but have with 2 other brands and they performed ok. I know several guys who've taken deer with their spitfires with no problems and they are teh ones who talked me into getting them. I'll have to show them your pix's and results but guess I'll be going back to fixed after this.

Thanx for the report, nothing like that broadhead twisting the knife after all that happened......

Tinhorn,

This is my first time using Spitfires too. I'm not blaming their broadheads but I'm just a bit concerned why it didn't open. All indications show that it didn't open up. I'll put it this way...I'm not going to give them a second try. I've used different mech heads, the ones with the rubber bands, that worked just fine. I have no idea why I switched away from them????

By the way, I'm shoot 100 grain heads. The calcualtor I used showed that I have enough kenetic energy to open a mech broadhead.

Let me know what your friends think.

Thanks
SS

Oh no.... I decided to try Spitfires this year, too.

I haven't had a shot yet, but you'll definitely be on my mind when I do...

By the way ~ See what I mean about being our own worst critic?! Maybe(?) that some sort of consolation....

I had a couple of new Spitfires in my quiver due to the recommendations of others. However, when my 10 pointer walked up the Thursday before gun season, I already had a Thunderhead nocked. The deer only went 75 yards. Why didn't I use the Spitfire? I dunno.
