Pig bait

This is the first time posting under hog hunting and i don't want to come off sounding stupid. This being said, I have a question. I haven't hunted pig much, but I've always wanted to. I began asking some buddys about what I should use to bait pigs and I keep hearig one thing that just sounds obsurd. Has anyone here ever soaked corn in kerosene or motor oil to attract pigs? I have heard this from four sources now and none of them know each other. I would think that any petroleum product would repulse any wild animal. Please let me know if I'm getting hosed.

Nope, i've heard it too...know one guy that'll put his used oil on the ground and the damn pigs will roll all over it. No other animals will eat corn w/ kerosene, but pigs are some nasty critters. I've never seen it, but i hear it works.

I wouldn't want to eat a hog that ate that stuff with any regularity, but a buddy in Mississippi swears by it.

I've seen the "Hog Wild" (granular stuff smells like grape bubblegum) in action and it definitely works. We dug 5 holes a few feet apart (4" wide, 8" deep) mixed the hog wild with corn and filled the holes. It took the pigs 2 nights to find the holes, but when they did, they dug out every last kernel.

Yes, I've heard it too....although I don't do it.

We just use plain shelled corn. If you need to draw them in from other areas.....far off.....take shelled corn and place it in a bucket full of water and allow time to sour. Then go to area and dig a hole and bury the corn.


You can take a wooden post dug deeply into the ground and cover it from top to bottom with burnt motor oil. This will create a rubbing post that hogs love.

but i do know of a person that broke a hydraulic line over a year ago on their doser and the hogs still visit this area to roll in the fluid

The reason they soak it in kerosene or diesel is to keep the racoons from eating all the bait before the hogs show up. its not that the pigs prefer it that way.

Well, who'd a thunk it. I like the rubbing post idea and I have heard of the sour corn before. This feed and oil thing I just don't get. I'm just gonna have to give er a try. I'll let you know if it works or if it's just another snipe hunt.

I have lots of personal experience with this in Texas.

5 gallon bucket with 3/4 full of corn.
1 gallon whole milk
Couple of skanky beers (don't waste the good stuff!)
1 cup of diesel (this keeps all the other critters away and doesn't bother the pigs, I think it actually attracks them.)
Add in a couple of gallons of water and stir.
Cover and put in the sun. Crack the lid every day to release the gasses. When it gets good and ripe dig and couple of 12" to 18" holes around your stand and pour a little around on the ground around the holes. Or put in your traps.

If there are pigs around they will find it and tear it up!! You will have a big hole in the ground when they are done.

I've used this more times then I can count and it always works. The reciepe was given to me by the guys that trap on my buddys hunting property in Texas.
