Has anyone had any experience or luck using primos "pig squealer" I purchased one and have yet to use it. I t sounds more like a rabbit in distress call. I am thinking it might scare them more than attract them. Anybody have any input??

I carry a grunt call. Use it now and then as a sound cover. If i know im close to hogs and i make to much noise by mistake i will give a copple of low grunts in hopes it wioll cover my noise.

I have tried both the squealer and grunt with minimal success. I have had young pigs respond to the grunt, but, have never called in one of any size. I have never gotten a response with the squealer.

I did pick a good sized boar a few years back when it came to the squeal of a piglet, but, that's been about it.

My buddy and I had success a couple of times . We did not set up and try to call in pigs we did not see like calling in turkeys, but instead stalked into distance of a pig and then one of us would call while another stalked. It seemed to work when trying to crawl on your hands and knees within arrow distance of a group of hogs. I will say that once when I was doing the calling that I was charged by a very large pig that must have been bedded very close, to bad I had a bow and not a 44.

The grunt is good at locating them. The squeal is good at chasing them away or out of cover. Neither do a good job of calling them to you.

That's good info. I picked up a grunt call on a whim, and figure it would help settle them down if I make a noise. Not expecting them to come begging like the cat when you open the fridge...

Are electronic calls legal for pig in California?

I asked DFG that same question and they said no. Electronic calls are fine for varmints but DFG does not consider pigs to be varmints. In Texas and perhaps other states it may be ok but check with their DFG first.
