Read an article somewhere by one of these expert types who go out with a bow. He used a deer grunt tube and managed to replicate the hog sounds to call back from the brush some boar he spooked from 30yds.
I haven't been shy about trying my own grunts out there in the woods as long as there aren't any other hunters in the area who like to shoot at sounds.

Bill:
I was in South TX last week hunting javaline. On Sunday I walked up on 3 java's and they ran off woofing at me. I pulled out my Ote preator call and blew a few times real hard and before I could get ready one of the little guys came runing in but did not stop and let me shoot at him. It worked that time but this was the only luck (not bad , I just was not ready) that I had with them. Hope this helps. Later Billy
I have one too. I heard one wrestling around in the brush before. I started calling on it but could'nt get it to come out. It did'nt run off though. He was in there a good while before it left. Where i don't know just did'nt hear it anymore. But My daughter likes playing with it , and My buddy always teases Me about it. He thinks I carry to much stuff as it is though lol. But hey when you're a couple miles in . It's better to be prepared right? Anyways I still carry it with Me when I go . I'm still curious Myself though
It was about 9:00am. We had just sat down to rest and started hearing noise in the thick brush about 75 yds below us. My buddy started grunting softly at them, and one popped out of the brush looking around. Then one by one the others started popping out. We won't get into the rest of the story, but neither of us got any pork chops out of it:weep-yellow: Good luck Scott
A buddy I know who is a pro staffer for Primos was using hog calls this weekend at FHL. The hog grunter looks like a deer grunt tube, just maybe 1/2 the diameter in the tube. He also had a hog squealer which he said works good. If you've been around hogs enough you know thjey go crazy when one of them starts a squealing.
I've grunted at hogs to help put the sneak on them and calm them down. Never tried squealin at them to see what they would do. Might help drive them out of the heavy brush instead of crawling in after them.
Jesse, I ordered a "Boss Hawg" Grunter from Hayedel's calls. Unfortunately, or fortunately they sent me a video on Turkey Psychology. Maybe I could get a job as a therapist for turkeys.
Well, I called them and they are going to send me the grunter call.
The way I was told from Haydel's Calls the grunt calls are good for calming down pigs and the squeeler calls are good for rousting pigs that are bedded in heavy cover. If the squeeler call is used on feeding hogs it may drive them away.
This is what I was told.
Also, Jesse, what time of the year would you say is the best for FHL? I have heard that the fall is good, since the acorns concentrates the pigs, I have heard that the spring is good since theyare out alot feeding and I have heard that the summer is great since they are concentrated on water and I have also heard that summer is the worst since they become nocturnal.
