Rested, fed and nothing moving we start back for camp, looks like weather may be moving in again, NOT GOOD, so after our 8 mile hike we decide it would be better if we relocated camp back closer to the truck and head out after the Morning hunt.
Packed up and on our way it has now become obvious we had better make a mad dash for the truck, of course a mad dash for me is not as fast as it should be. Its already drizzling and we still have a couple miles to go, we are on the good trail so bubble breaks aheads to the truck and is going to bring me some hiking poles.
Finally I'm to the drops into the canyons and I can see the truck, Bubble has not gotten there yet and the trail has now become muddy and supper slippery. Now raining every thing is soaked and I am really fighting the fatigue, I know if I slip it is going to be a mess at the bottom. My legs are back to shaking uncontrollably and I am force to crouch down and slide down what was once a path, the saving grace is the thick brush I cussed on the way up is now working as my safety net.
As I top the last rise I see Bubble at the truck he had put his stuff away and was returning with the hiking poles and a shovel. The trails now were impossible to get up or down without foot hole being made and once again Gary goat carried my pack up to the truck.
Up the last slope and on to the road and as I stand I am sliding to the truck, the road has become a sheet of ice and the first 300 feet were up hill!! At the truck Bubble wanting me to get some water and hydrate and I'm saying lets get the hell up this hill. Bubble agrees and jumps in, His truck in low 4X4 we immediately start spinning the tires and slowly we start to move forward. Gaining a little speed as we go. Now the road is slanting towards the edge, Yes the edge that drops off into "you are truly Fuced up land", the rear tires kick to the bad side and Bubble is on the ball counter steering, we are now broad side heading up this slip N slide. Up better than half way and Bubble is working his truck like he is dancing the waltz, back pedaling the gas, counter steering as the rear trys to become the front . the truck is screaming, bouncing and hoping, mud is being flung everywhere and Bubble waltz's that truck up that hill!!!
Thank God!!! I say as I finally take a breathe, But it was far from over, the waltz had now turned into the ICE Capades 7 miles of ice, up and down hill, thru 6 foot wide cattle gates and past washed out drainage pipes the DANCE continued. And wouldn’t you know it this is where the pigs were, strolling there bacon bits across the road in front of us and they are not stupid one look at the truck coming up that road they knew it was not stopping At the piggy crossing and I tell those guys can haul ass when they want to.
Finally around the last corner and there are road closed cones and beautiful asphalt.
Now I introduce you to Bubbles other talent “Drift King” That was the longest 6 or so miles I Have ever been thru, and I have been on ice, mud, snow, sand, shell and I tell you what got Us out of there was all the driver.
It was an adventure, can’t tell you how many times it had my heart pumping (NO POUNDING) and saw all that was promised Pig and Turkey sign, real live Pigs that hopefully next time we’ll have the opportunity to take a shot at.
Thank you Bubblehide
