Camp set up and a short nap under my belt, the sun just getting low in the sky, off for our first evening hunt. Track and sign everywhere Deep prints pippy paths all over the place, but the one with the most sign is headed down to the bottom of a canyon, but that path is going to have to wait for morning just to steep and narrow.
I could not believe how agile and strong pigs were, the paths not much more than 6 inches wide on some of the slipperiest steep mountain sides and then running into brush thorned and thick. Really incredible animals, and it just makes me want to get one even more.
Night falling going to be headed back to camp in the dark, really good thing that Bubble knows the area, could very easily get turned around here. Back at camp meals ate relaxing, kicking around the morning hunt. (Bubble) Lets hit the ridge first thing and if nothing is moving lets take a short trek and check things out. Cool sounds like a plan to me, then plop, plop drizzle Rain!! No its not suppose to be here till Saturday and its only Thursday. So into the tents we go, now believe me it was much more than a couple seconds and I was out, woke up once the drizzle had turned into rain. Now the both of us should have been very concerned when we awoke the next morning but it looked likea beautiful day was going to happen Clear sky ,not cold, guess we both figured everything would dry out and all would be fine so we head out. Now If a hike is 6 miles of the most unforgiving terrain what is a trek to Bubble? Kinda had me worried but then I thought hell got another night whats a little trekking going to hurt. So down and around we go, up the side of here down the other side, then a perfectly good path and there goes Gary Goat up the side of the hill again? This short trek has me huffing and puffing again!! So what was wrong with the trail why up the side Almost to the top and Gary Goat is pointing at this group of rocks and I think well thank you it would be easier than this loose ass shit I’m going up now. So over to the rocks and up I go Gary Goat has now gone into full blown what the hell didn’t you hear me mode, I said yes you wanted me to use the rocks to make it easier on me (Bubble) NO I was warning you about the poison oak you just went thru. AHH HAA that’s why the up and down Gary Goat is allergic to poison oak, and I guess I am going to find out if I am?
Well we work our way out the far end of the canyon and find a service road and start walking down it, near 9am and not having coffee in the morning I suggest that we stop have some grub, rest and think about heading back Bubble comes back with ya sounds good lets fid some shade with a view to eat. And off heads Bubble straight up the nearest hill OK Note to Myself! (Gary Jive) “Shady spot with a view“ really means climb the highest point around and see whats on top. Well when we did get to the top it was a really great view.
