Just got back from the best trip I have ever taken! Didn't think Israel would be such a fantastic place. It's not the dry desert you picture. Most of the northern areas are lush and green with streams, lakes, and rolling green grass hills. Looks a lot like Santa Ynez in the spring. We were up in the northern area below the snow covered Mt Hermon near the Golan Heights. We were walking to an ancient temple spot called Tel Dan which is mentioned in the OT.(old testament). After hearing about the sacrifices that took place there, I did a little poking around and found some ancient pot shards and some bones that looked a bit human!. As we hiked along one of the streams, my hunter instincts came alive and I started to notice all these freshly rooted areas with pig tracks going in and out of the bushes. There were tunnels in all the bushes!. I got real excited and told the guide what I was seeing but being Jewish I don't think he shared in my enthusiasm. I kinda got a blank look! Anyway the pigs there run around the hills and raid the farmers fields at night just like in Cal but hunting is something that doesn't seem to be done or is highly regulated. They say that if you fire a gun, the Israeli Defense Force can pin point it and will be on you in minutes. Don't miss this country if you ever get a chance. Contact me if you want the inside scoop and tips. I will post pics tonight.-Mike G
