I left the truck about 20 minutes before light to get to the area I wanted to hunt. As soon as I shut the door to the truck I heard some pigs squeal in the trees about 100 yards from the truck, I had a feeling it would be a good day.
By the time I found the place I wanted to sit for the morning it was just getting light, so I sat down on a little bank about 3' tall with a bush behind me for cover and got out the rangfinder to check the range on some areas because I could see up to 400 yads in some spots. I was having a hard time with the rangefinder because it was still a little dark.
As I was looking from one area to the next with the rangefinder I saw a pig walking down the hill about 120 yards away. I dropped the rangefinder and grabed my gun as he went behind a tree, I set there for about a minute waiting for him to come out the other side and when he did he was standing broad side at about 120 yards. I raised my gun got the cross hairs right where I wanted them and pulled the triger and click.
I have a habit of putting a shell in the chamber when I leave the truck if I am walking by myself, I have always done this. But this morning because the ground was so steep and there was a heavy dew on the grass so it would be slick, plus it was dark and I was by myself this trip I decided to be extra safe and not put a round in until it got light.
As I was putting a round in I was thinking please don't run off, and I am now down to 3 shots. When I got ready to shoot again he was facing a little bit towards me but I still felt like I had a good shot at that distance. At the shot he took off in my direction but went down into a wash that is about 6' deep before I could tell if I had a good hit or get another shot at him, I figured he would run down the wash, but instead he came out at a dead run on a trail that went by me about 4' to my right. As he was running at me I took a second shot at about 65 yards and hit him in the rear flank but it didn't hit any bone, he was still comming at full speed. The last shot I had was at about 30 yards and I held on the center of his head and pulled the trigger, he went down hard.
When It was all over I sat there wondering if he was comming after me or just trying to get away on that trail? I have had deer and elk get confused and run in my direction but it is different was a big boar does it.
You can see the pictures at http://community.webshots.com/user/rwchunter you can see where the first shot exited on his side in one of the pictures, and on the close up of his face you can see the spot of blood on his forhead where the last shot went in and the exit hole behind his left ear.
It was an exciting morning.
