This is probably a dumb question, but...I know that when you buy pig tags you get 5 of them (if I'm not mistaken). Can I split them with a hunting buddy or a family member? I'd be lucky to get 1 pig a year so the other 4 would be a waste.

No worries. They don't come in books of 5 anymore. Now you pay about 5 times more for 1 tag.

As stated they are not in books anymore. One tag, one pig...
And even if they were still in books, it's illegal to do so. You are required to fill out your tags prior to hunting. Just like deer, elk and others. Supposed to keep people from herd hunting. Where one person does all the shooting for the members in their party.

Might go to Carrizo soon for quail and thought I might just get a pig tag in case we happen to hit the lotto, so to speak, and hapened to run across a pig. Thanks for the info.

Very good thinking, you just never know when you will run across wild pigs. It's usually when you don't have a tag...
Good luck.

Technically, the individual selling you the tag is supposed to record your hunting license number on the tag to prevent sharing.

If you buy your stuff from Wal Mart, this does not necessarily happen!

Heck, I bought my stuff from DFG in San Diego, and they didn't fill anything out.

It is up to the hunter to pre fill out all the info on tags, before going into the field. This is to prevent "sharing" tags or "group" hunting to fill tags...
