Well my wife and I went to visit Deedy at pig heaven otherwise known as Bryson Resort and had a terrific time. My goal was to get a turkey for my wife and if it worked out a meat pig for the freezer. we arrived wed afternoon and after scouting for a while I decided to take a walk , within 20 minutes I spot pigs down in a draw so I slooooowly crawl nearer to them. I manage to get about 100 yds from them which is ideal for my 30.06. I glass them and count about 10 to 12 pigs, the wind is blowing in my face about 10 knots so they can't wind me and I'm well concealed so I decide to take my time and CAREFULLY pick out my victim. watching these pigs is very interesting so I kind of get caught up in the moment (about 5 min actually), I'm watching a 200lb+ sow rolling in the dust while 3 almost tiger striped 60lb'ers run back and forth like teenagers with to much energy. Theres also a boar about 150lbs trying to mount a sow of the same size and another bunch rooting for dinner. after about 3 to 5 mins of entertainment I decide to take the red boar thats trying to breed the sow so I raise my rifle and get in a shooting position, as I find the boar in my sight I feel a very slight breeze suddenly on the back of my neck, before I can pull the trigger a pig grenade goe's off, there are pigs running at full speed in every direction except where theres a shooting lane, the only one left is the sow and I would have taken her but her legs were going a mile a minute before she even regained her feet so when she was upright she launched off into the nearest brush not giving me a shot that I was comfortable with and that folks was the last pigs that I saw that weekend but hey it was worth the price of admission to watch the pigs and put my wife onto the turkey's, she got her bird but thats another story for the turkey forum. P.S. my dumb streak continued the rest of the weekend, sometimes I get caught up in myself and after 50 yrs of being very successful hunting I gloat inwardly but it only takes one weekend like this one to remind me I still put my pants on one leg at a time like everyone else and I eat a little humble pie.

I think when you get so caught up watching the animals in their natural state, that you forget to shoot what you're hunting for, it means that your cup is full. Sounds like a great weekend.

The sight of boar mounting a sow must be too entertaining that DP forgot the purpose of why he was there.

Well sounds like fun anyway. But part of me was happy that you didn't shoot the poor "red-headed" kid that was just trying to get lucky.

Sounds like some of my hunts. Great time though. Especially my last hunt at Chopper's. Got within 25 yards of two smallish pigs but decided to take the larger boar 35 yards away. None of them knew I was there so I get cocky and try and get closer. I get to 28 yards of the bigger one and as I'm drawing my bow, I feel wind on my neck. Oink, and they are gone. Shouldn't be so cocky!

Thank you Dirtpoor, for coming we had sooo much fun with you and Mrs.Dirtpoor.

I've hid in the right next to them at 20-30 yards for 2 hours and watched them playing around. .. sometimes the wind co-operates. But usually not for very long. The longer we wait to take a shot, the more the odds are in their favor. Suckers may not be able to see very well (or maybe they can) but they're sniffers work really, really well.
Don't ya just love that grunt they do when you get busted - you know the one right before you never see them again...Dang I hate that sound. I'd be scared to death to try a pig call. The "pig in the know" just does one "grunt or oink" and that's it. It doesn't really sound that special compared to all the other noises they make, but they all know. They are gone.
