No, not that kind........the kind who decide they need your stuff more than you do and break into your car while you are in the field. Just a heads

But as far as real pigs go, we did a 7 mile hike and saw very little sign and no quail whatsoever

If you can find out who they are ,I would love to go hunting with you..I hear that a 12 gauge loaded with Black pepper and rock salt helps to steer them in the right direction..

To all those who do not know.Do not park anywhere near san Luis Res or the fore bay and leave anything of value in your car.Leave doors unlocked and nothing in sight or in the trunk.The "tweekers" from the valley use it as a shopping mall.Take only what you will carry in the field.If you lock the doors they will break the windows to see what is in the trunk.

I had this happen a few yrs back.I had to learn the ropes the hard way.As you can see by my screen name i keep venomous reptiles.I thought of leaving a purse (not mine I dont have one) on the front seat with a rattlesnake in it.That will teach them.I just do not know what the reprecussions on that would be.Besides they might hurt the snake.This also goes for the coast line south of Half Moon Bay Ca to Carmel.The coastside parking lots and turnouts are not "vehicle safe" The pay areas are much better but I always follow the same rules.

Dang jerks! I hate hearing stuff like this. I always worry about my vehicle in spots like that.

good info to pass along, I never heard this about Upper Cottonwood before. Seems like it would be worth it to take along someone with a pig tag and let them babysit with their rifle, and maybe a camera, just inside the fence with a veiw of the vehicles -- maybe a small group could even share some meat with the "sentry". The sentry might even see a hog, you never know. A lot of tweakers are on parole, and a picture of a perp could be circulated by police to area parole offices. Are the break-ins happening at night when hunters are walking in and out? or during the day?

VK, yes I do beleive there would be repercussions. It is very much illegal to set up ANY kind of trap for burglars. I had my truck broken into last week and had a good talk with the deputy who came out to take the report. I mentioned I was thinking about setting up a trap with pepper spray and he let me know that ANY kind of trap especially one causing harm is illegal and would be getting me into more trouble than the burglar not to mention incurring a big civil liability with the crook who is now a victim. In other words, the scum tried to rip you off, gets hurt, and then sues you and likely gets lots of money. Hows that for a twisted society? The scum has a lot more rights than we do. Oh well, I will watch Charles Bronson in "Deathwish" tonight. That always makes me feel better. PS I really like the idea of a posted sentry.

Make a sign and put in the driver's side window that says:

I have a rifle;

I can see my truck;

Want to test my accuracy?

i have a sign that says "if you can read this im watching you through my scope" that i put in my truck window when im off hikeing. i havent ever had any problems yet but then again most the trail heads around here that i hunt are pretty remote and only other hunters around. i think i got the idea from someone on this forum.
