Been planning my Memorial day weekend trip with my brother for some time and saw this posted last night. They are opening up some of the impact area's 21 and 22 for Sat and Sun. 10 hunters drawn at a time. If one takes a pig the next hunter may enter the training area. My brother is bringing his bow and I am bringing a shotgun in addition to our rifles! This weekend is going to be killer. Hope this info may intice others to give it a shot! If you do go I am planning on camping there and would enjoy a cold one with any of you.

Holy Crap! That's a rare treat. Many of time's I've seen huge herds of hogs in the middle of 22. Never been in 21.

Let us know how it goes....take pictures!

Will do. I need to track down some sabo's for my brothers shotgun. I am pretty excited as I will be ariving early to set up camp and hope to be first in line. Not that it matters as it is a drawing. Does anyopne know if Military get preferance points or is it ussually a free for all. Either way works for me. I am happy to be going hunting.

Knowing FHL, you'll probably not get any military preference. It'll probably be a free for all. But the drawing is at 1430 so, I imagine that puts you ahead of the game. Most folks can't get off work until after 1600.

That's true. I pulled a few days of leave in conjuction with the 96. I have a few things to do this week also as far as packing and finding a meat processor near Camp Pendleton. I am sure a google search and I will have a hit.

If I have a license and a tag, how much red tape do I have to hurdle to make it happen?

See list at link. http://www.jesseshunting.com/site/ca-butchers.html There's one in San Marcos, Oceanside, maybe one in Escondido. I've heard that Tip Top meats in Carlsbad does game as well, but I haven't verified it.

If it weren't for FPCON bravo, I'd be hitting VAFB this weekend. Closer and just as many hogs. As it is, I'm off to do some pre-season elk scouting in the Coconino NF.

Drive down there and buy the annual hunting pass. I think its $100 per year for civilian and less for the active duty and retired folks. Good deer there and nice turkey, quail and dove as well. Excellent elk, if you can draw a tag. It's a huge base, open to the public.

Thats a load! That's what happens when MWR takes over something, its inconvient to do their jobs and it cost 3 time more than it should. Same with MCCS, the Marine Corp Crime Syndicate.

MWR took over and now you have to buy an annual permit (retiree $60) to even APPLY for an elk tag. Regardless if you'll hunt there or not, if your not drawn.

Well looks like I have to resubmit for the elk draw with a one year pass. MCCS is crap too. No idea about MWR.

You betcha! Alot of folks are up in arms about that. I haven't made up my mind if I'll submit in ICE report via their website. I've done those before and it really shakes up the folks that you complain about. It has to go to DC and then back down. Lots of oversight on getting a response back to you. I think they have 5 days.

Correction- 3 working days to respond.

I think I will join you on the ICE report that is a great idea. When I get back I will mass email all of my friends, mostly SNCO's and Officers to join me. The last time I did this I got the gym manager fired! He was unhappy I was disturbing the cardio bunnys and thought it was their gym not the Marines. I think unemplyment changed his mind lol.
