Good Evening Fellow Hunters,

I will be taking a road trip to Plano, Texas in about a month to pick up a rodeo arena, and while I was there I was hoping to take in a famous Texas hog hunt. Does anyone know of any hog hunting in the Plano area. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jess.

Here's a place I know of in North East Texas. This one Boar Creek Ranch is located close to Dallas and has some really nice Russian Boar hunting. I have not personally hunted there but know of a few guys that have. The other Cougar Run Ranch It's located about 4 hours south of Dallas. I have hunted it two times. Once in the middle of a hot summer, we did'nt do to well the other was in the spring and we all got 2-3 average size hogs. Their exotics look cheap but from what I remember you get what you pay for. They did'nt have alot of big trophies when I was there.

Hope this helps some.
Good Luck

I happen to live in Plano so here is what you can expect.

Plano is only minutes from large city Dallas. Therefore, you are unlikely to find anything without driving an hour away from the metroplex. There are a ton of outfitters in the surrounding cities, most hunts I see go for about $150 for a day hunt. There is not really any public land that I would recommend you hunt because without prior scouting you would probably be wasting a lot of time.

A buddy of mine has given me this on the topic...

$200 for a hog hunt,if you want another hog it will be an additional $100
This place is loaded with Hogs, there are some bruisers, when the feeders come on the hogs come in.
Turkey is $250, there are plenty of turkeys on this place. There is a 1000 acres to hunt and these guys will put you on the game.
Archery or Gun
Contact Chris Skinner @ 940-781-9877
Jolly, Tx about a 1 1/2 North of Ft.Worth

Guys this place is covered in game, these guys that run the lease deer hunt archery only, they could care less about the hogs and turkeys. These are good men an they will treat you right.

Good Luck!

Jess, I am a hunting buddy of FFF, that posts quite often on this website. My family owns 300 acres of bottom land in central Texas, just outside of Fairfield. I am in the process of replacing feeders, reloading them, etc. and if you're interested in splitting the gas, helping load the feeders (if the water has dropped) and buying me lunch or the beer ;-) I would be glad to take you hunting. Any donation to the "Buy David a Browning Synergy Shotgun Fund" would be gladly accepted!!!

My son and I were there this weekend and the temps were in the 80s but the wind was blowing. We worked in the morning and hunted the afternoon. While hunting a winding road to the very bottom of the property will walked up on two wallows that had "just been vacated". I mean there were bubbles still rising in them from where the pigs had just left. We split up into two groups, my son went due east and I took his buddy with me. I explained to his friend that we were going to walk another 50 yards to the pipeline (right of way) that runs east / west on the southenmost edge of the property and then head east parallel to my son.

As Travis (son's buddy) turned the corner around a brush pile on the edge of a marshy flat to head into the right of way a hog jumped up from beside us in a thicket and headed towards my son to the southeast of us about 100 yards away. I just caught a glimpse of the all black porker busting through the brush and clipped off one shot with my 10-22.

I missed...but 30 seconds later BLAM...pause...BLAM...my son fired two shots at the hog as it ran towards him on a trail. He waited until the pig was on top of him...approximately 5-7 yards and opened fire. He hit him with a shot from my Marlin 30-30 and the pig never slowed down, didn't squeal, just kept on making tracks. My son was so excited he started after the pig immediately...big no no. I finally caught up to him, made him show me where he shot the pig and we started tracking from the blood trail. He had definitely hit him but it looked like a shoulder shot...no bubbles, and the blood amount dropped off quickly. We tracked him another 45 minutes but could not pick up the blood trail for the denseness of the briars and brambles...and trust me, I do not leave downed game...it's a bounty I do not want to take for granted.

We ran into some neighbors later, running dogs and I told them where Will (my son) had hit the hog. It was near dark by then but they were sure they could get the dogs on the scent and retrieve the pig.

If this sounds like something you'd like to do...bring tall water-proof boots, a good brush gun and we'll push into the thicket.

Regards,

Thanks a lot Docwells for the invitation. It is much appreciated. As the time gets closer I will definitely give you a call. I plan on heading out that way about 5 weeks from now. My brother (my best friend and hunting partner) and I will be sharing the driving time together. Would it be ok if he hunted along with us.

Thank You,
Jess.

Bobcatjess... My cousin runs a hoghunting outfit about 2 hours west of Plano. They hunt exclusively with dogs and you would have to kill the hogs with a knife. It is a LOT of fun and a lot of work, but not for the faint of heart... If things do not work out with DocWells, let me know and I will get pricing and see if we can get something set up for you....

I've seen that on the Outdoor Channel.

I think I'd have to take a pass on that one.

hi speckmisser,
didn't even think of the picture thing, i'm not too good with this computer stuff
just yet but i'm learning.
went on a girls only hunt, we did invite the guys but not their knives! first my sister
michelle got hers, he was about 250lbs, i've never seen her so excited! then it
was my sister barbara's turn, she got a smaller one, about 70lbs, went straight-in
to the heart, took about 3 seconds for him to give in. then it was my turn, and our
guide said the area we were in was known for some big ones, so i told my big sis
she might need to give me a hand. be careful what you wish for, because out
came a huge boar, so barbara went in on the left and i went in on the right! i can't
imagine going back to hunting hog with a gun, even deer season might be a little
anti-climactic. just make sure the knife you use is 7" or better. here's the pics
cathy

That's a big ol' pig, Satchmo! Congrats to both of you. You deserve to be excited.

I wasn't all that nuts about the knife thing in my one and only experience, but then again, my hog wasn't a big boar either... just a little meat hog. It wasn't as hairy as I thought it would be. Slip it in under the shoulder like an arrow and voila... dead piggie. I'm sure there'd be a much bigger charge with a 300-400 lb boar, though!

Can't use a knife in CA anyway, so unless I went somewhere else to hunt, it's a moot point. I reckon I'll stick with my recurve and rifle.

Bobcat,

If you give me a date of when you are going to be here and how long and everything, I can probably squeeze you in for a hunt with the dogs. It is free range so I cant promise anything
<
.

David and FForF (when your back here) your welcome to go too. Maybe it will work out this time.

Satchmo, those are some good hogs. I guess you live in TX?

Kevin,

Thanks for the invitation. Looks like fun...what is that tall dog that you're petting? Looks like a PitBull on stilts!!
