Playing around with Photoshop 7.0 with the colors and learning new techniques to fade my signature and make it less distracting. Previously I felt that my signature drew the eye to it, I didnt want that. Now I think that the photo gets the full attention and yet the signature is still there. Any input?

Hideandwatch, I've looked at this image a few times during the week and I've been trying to research somethings on images and intellectual property dealing with copyright (without too much luck).

I like the signature, it's not too obstructive and you can just make it out so you know it's there. I read somewhere that you do not need to add a copyright symbol, year, and name to have it be copyrighted (the exif data is all you need). I've searched the web to find the same article with no luck, I would keep adding your sig because it's a great deterrent against someone who might want to lift your images.

As for the colour....

I think it would have looked a little better if the claws were a solid colour with the b/g in b&w... and if you zoomed-out a little so they were surrounded in b&w (just my opinion).

Thanks for the comments Paul. With my novice experience with photography Im really not concerned with anyone lifting my shots at this time

But I like to place a sig on my shots more for a staement that they are mine, and yet be able to keep it low profile so the sig doesnt draw moe attention to it. I agree with your comment on this particular shot as far as the colors, I was using the magic wand to do the selective erasing of the hue/saturation, and I thought it looked a little strange so I left it, sometimes I like strange...

. Right now Im just having fun with my software manipulating shots, and thnk tha evetually I will learn enough manipulation moves to have a high quality manipulation.. Anyway that is what I am hoping for.

Why not? You should be... the recent shot of a barn you posted was outstanding. I just read a post on a photog site where a guy took some images of a sporting event in HI. To make a long story short, he gave a printed picture of the event to one of his friends who in turn gave to someone else... the image of the event ended up on the back of a mag. as an advertizement. The original photographer got screwed in the deal. You never know, you might take an image of something that you don't care too much for, and someone else might.

Hideandwatch,

Nice picture and I like the Signature. I was talking to a buddy who is a great photographer and he let me in on where to put the signature. He said "don't put it where it can be cropped out of the photo and the photo can still be used. Also if you can blend it with the background like on a (tree limb, log, fence post, etc) it doens't show as much. I added your name to the top of the claw and a Copyright to the middle of the picture(hope you don't mind). Also I used the "Clear Emboss" on PS to help blend in the text.

-just as a side note, in the grand scheme of things, there really isnt anything somebody can do with a photo if they do steal it. photos posted on the web dont have enough resolution to output a quality print. About the worst thing someone can do is copy the file, and post it somewhere else on the web saying they took it, or perhaps use the pic on a commercial website.
(but if you really have something you dont want stolen, dont put it on the web)

I do like to put my name on my pics though, usually in the lower right corner, just to say they are mine, and if someone does copy and paste them elsewhere at least my name is on it. Usually it doesnt hurt my feelings too much if they get lifted, copied, posted elsewhere without me knowing (as long as someone doesnt take credit for the photo and/or crop the sig off).

It's a closeup of one of the turkey claws in this shot that I manipulated in photoshop.

And Lan-lord is right on in saying if ya dont want your photos taken dont put them on the web. I'm really not worried about it myself.

Lan-Lord is abosolutly right about the quality of photos shown on the net. If someone likes my pictures enough to send them via email, or post them on a different thread, then so be it. It doesn't bug me one bit, but just don't say you took the picture if you did not capture the shot.

This is the only site I post pictures my pictures on a regular bases and love looking at everyone elses. I think you can learn more by looking at how someone took a picture and the different perspectives of the shot thatthey used. Thanks everyone for the great shots and showing me how to make my photo skills move up a notch

Keep the awesome pictures coming
