Poachers Kill Three Bull Elk in Lincoln County

Poachers struck in Lincoln County around Dec. 9 or 10 and their work resulted in the deaths of three bull elk that were shot and left in the field, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

Scott Giles, NDOW game warden, said hunters contacted NDOW on Monday, Dec. 12 to report finding two dead elk north of Pony Springs. He later found a third elk in the vicinity of the two that were originally reported by the hunters.

He said all three of the animals had been shot and two were left in the field to waste. The head and meat from the third animal were removed and taken by the poachers.

One of the animals was a seven-point by six-point bull while the other was five by five. It is unknown how large of antlers the other animal had.

Giles estimates that the animals had been shot approximately 48 to 60 hours before they were found.

On Dec. 2 a hunter reported to NDOW that a buck mule deer had been shot and left in the field near Echo Dam State Park in Lincoln County. That animal’s antlers were removed and the rest of the animal was left in the field.

NDOW is seeking the public’s assistance with these cases. Information is confidential and cash rewards will be paid upon conviction. Information can be reported to any NDOW office or to Operation Game Thief at (800) 992-3030.

You would think with all the game wardens they have in Nevada (a whopping 35 for the whole state!) it wouldn't be a problem.
