I have been hunting Blacktails for 15 years, and in that period of time, I have been fortunate enough to have taken 14 of the wary little beasts. They ranged in size from 142-197 pounds. I have used six different calibers from the 26/06 Remington to the .300 WSM. All were one shot kills except one, and all kills were made with a handgun. Most of the kills were made with the 30/06 (6) . The 25/06 came in second with 4. My favorite deer caliber is the 25/06. That being said, I often carry my 30/06 when hunting Blacktail because there are a lot of bears in the area that I hunt. In Whitetail Country, it is the 25/06 hands down.
