Never a dull moment last weekend. Even with base closures due to rocket launch and protesters at the front gate, we still mangaged to find the elusive and wily porkers.
After a morning of stalking one of the good areas, my buddy called me on the radio and said that he thought that we were done. It was only a little after 07:00 am, but the sun was blazing with no clouds in the sky. I had been throwing rocks into the bushes and trying to drive something out. At 07:15 I hear five shots right down from me. Over the radio I hear, "I think I got one, maybe two down." No luck for me this trip. But it was great fun anyway.
Wore us out carrying him out of the bush, uphill and all. Headed home that night.

Here is a photo at the skinning rack.

Pig came out of Area 3.

Out there, at the rod&gun club, that is quite a view I love it, my dad and I fish that whole coast line all the way up to Purrisima Pt.
I'm going after Pigigs on friday out at the ranch with the bow. With all this rain and sun and hot weather they haven't been all over the place like a coupla of months ago, but as everything drys out they'll be heading for water. Nice Pig.

Nice piggy! Hey Manteca... area 3, we'll be there Monday, Tues. and Wednesday. Whatever last minute intel anyone might have for me, would greatly appreciate it! Checking in first thing Monday morn' and away we will go. How good is Schuman Creek area? That picture is totally funny, but like it was said earlier... nice pig. Praying for pig,

Just got another photo of my buddy's pig before we got him to the skinning rack.

The next best thing to shooting one yourself is helping your hunting partner with his.

Good luck hunting to all.

Good Job guys... nice pig. Did you guys get that one up in Cumbar or Shuman Creek? Or am I wrong on both counts. I am planning a trip for July, anyone want to join in for a hunt? Also, what is the best slug gun setup or areas like 2a? I need to buy something for next time!

I'll be there July 1 - 3. Will camp in the Area 4 campground unless it's full. Then have to stay in the famcamp on base.

I don't have a plan for July yet. Wish I could go with you guys. Don't forget to update all the licenses and permits and stuff. You may even want to get a year membership with the base Rod & Gun club.

As for the shotgun question, there are a few ways to go and nothing is really cheap. I have two Mossberg shotguns, one pump and one bolt action, which I don't think that they offer anymore. These were relatively inexpensive to start with, but then I got scopes for them which cost more than the shotguns themselves. The pump also got a new rifled barrel (from Cabela's).

The best ammo I've found is Winchester Supreme in 3" putting out a 375 grain sabot over 2000 fps. These are not cheap either. Of course you will spend more at the firing range than you will pig hunting, so try to take care of it after you got it sighted in.
