Rumor is alive with possible world record elk shot today in arizona. Unofficially scored 459 non typical gross, 438 net. It is a 9x12 non typical that has lots of mass.

It came out of unit 8.

Anyone hear anymore?

Pics?

I was helping some friends in unit 7 this weekend so I just happened to see this elk. According to the story it was shot at 35 yards with a Mathews bow.(this may be important later with regard to record book eligibility). Until officially scored no one is quite sure whether this bull is a 12x9 or a 12x10. From what I've already heard the hunterhas been offered $10000 for the mount. It shouldn't take too long for the pictures to hit the web.

I saw pictures at an archery shop here in Az last nite. They are also being shown on a couple different sites here in Arizona. 1 very large bull. I dont think the pictures do it justice though, would like to see in person.

Yeah, thats the bull all right. I was driving back from New Mexico ( where i had just been on a 5 day elk hunt in southern colorado with family and friends), and i stopped by the little sporting goods store in Williams. I always make it a point to stop by this little place b/c the people are real friendly and always have lots of pics laying around from recently shot bulls. Anyway, this was on the 19th and the day after the bull was shot. They had a bunch of 8x10's on the counter showing the bull. I guess the locals had been chasing this animal for 2 years. IT was really neat to see them.

"Grandpa Bull's" numbers

Assuming that the initial numbers are verified in 60-days following the mandatory drying period, the massive Arizona non-typical bull elk that Phoenix-area bowhunter Nick Franklin tagged Sept. 18 carries stunning dimensions.

In addition to the bull's unofficial green score of 453 0/8 inches gross and 439 6/8 inches net, the other numbers include:

Inside spread of 54 4/8 inches
Main beam lengths of 55 2/8 inches (right) and 53 1/8 inches (left)
Circumference measurements ranging from 7 5/8 to 9 5/8 inches on the right side and from 7 4/8 to 9 5/8 inches on the left
Longest tine measurements of 21 6/8 inches (right side) and 21 3/8 inches (left side).[/b]
