Got an invite to a private ranch this weekend to chase some hogs. We had high hopes as we had struck out at FHL and PR. We had heard that pigs had torn the place up but when we arrived Saturday we saw that acres upon acres were rototilled up by the rooters. Spent saturday looking around in likely spots but no luck. Then sunday after posting up at a likely spot for the morning I moved off to cover the whole ranch, pausing to glass once in a while. Finally ran into a pair of sows, and me and my brother opened up. The pigs, confused or angry ran right towards us as soon as we shot them. Had to put a few extra rounds in them to stop them at about 25 yards. Made for an exciting few seconds.

After the ringing in my ears subsided, I took a look at our kills and whoah they were big pigs! Mine weighed in at 250 lbs and my brothers at 160 lbs. The big sow had about an inch of fat all around its body. Our barnes bullets did the job (almost too well, one sow got a shoulder pulverized). I was shooting .308 150 grain and my brother .223 in 55 grain (hate all you want :violin:). The .308 went through completely and we recovered one .223 from the opposite side of the pig after it had punched through the whole body.

Now if I could just catch one on public land...

Thanks. It was an invite. It was at a ranch where only a few pigs are taken over the years. Pretty much have to know any rancher personally to get an invite.

Good job! From the reported rooting, sounds like theres a lot more pigs there. Stay friendly with the rancher or ask if he needs help around the ranch to keep access to hunt.

The pig are as cool as your story. Congrats dude. I have seen a hog make a charge at wolfman on one occasion;nasty business. The next shot stopped it short.

congrats on the fat hog. That's' a good one if you want to turn it all into sausage. Grind all the fat with it.

The background of the hanging hog pic, says the place is hog heaven.

Thanks.

The location I can't say for obvious reasons, don't want 100s of hunters harassing the landowner.
