Well I stretched 1/4 mile of barbwire and helped get the cat d4 going. Then got a ride around on a quad to see the land. Saw 5 hogs 2 does 3 fawns endless quails and doves and turkeys. I didn’t even hunt it but we got to shoot and make sure I fit in well. Good news I did fit in great and got invited to come hunt it any time. I am beyond happy to finally get my first piece of private to hunt. It’s 2200 acre with 4 spots of year round water plus 5 cattle troughs with water and 7 plots of barley. I will keep you posted

That is great. Some friends and I leased the Taylor ranch on Turkey Flat Road for years. After Bub passed, though, Ruth no longer wanted hunters on her land for fear of getting sued if something happened. That hurt, as we had become such good friends of the family. I think a local guide played upon her fears so he could get exclusive access. At one time, the ranch was about 25,000 acres, but I know she sold off a large chunk of the part in the hills between Turkey Flat and Parkfield.

Going Thursday afternoons spend the night hunt Friday morning and see what happens. Been busy fishing salmon and halibut. Got a new boat

So I arrived at the ranch late it was already dark so no hunt first night. I did see a doe with two fawns on the dirt road drive in. I got up early Friday morning to scout around and see what I could find. Located plenty of doe with fawns but no bucks or hogs. It got to 100 degrees early so I packed it in and waited for evening. So around 5 I decide let’s look for some doves and take the bow just in case. Set up on a spot I saw activity in the morning. For the first hour didn’t see a single bird fly but it was still HOT. About 15 minutes before sunset I started to see some activity... then the flood gates opened and steel shot was flying. I did okay since I haven’t used the shotgun since last season. Ended with 8 dove. Went to camp and cooked up some. The next morning I went to an area that looked great and had signs. I sat for 3 hours didn’t see any life. Wished it went better but not complaining at all. Love that property and plan to go back for more dove and look for big game before season ends. On a positive note I saw 200 plus quail so I know exactly where I will be on opener.p.s not sure if it’s because it has been so dry or what but the doves where the smallest I ever saw
