As some of you know who have hunted with me I like my Leupold scopes but only use Leica Binoculars. My Leica Glasses have been with me for a very long time and have been so good to me for identifying game and trophy quality that even though they are very heavy I cannot trust anything less then my Leica's. I think one of the reasons the Leica's are so good is the very strong construction. Unfortunately they are very heavy compared to other glasses with nearly the same optical quality but weigh much less. Swarovski, Khales, Steiner and Ziess for instance.
I was given a set of Binocular straps to evaluate. I did not think much of them when I saw them to be honest with you. My first impression was " just another gimmick" I did not care for the plastic snaps which snap to the neck strap loops on the Binoculars, or the bouncy feel of the elastic shoulder and back straps. They also felt awkward to put on with your arms going through the straps like putting on a shirt.
However I was just working with them on me for 5 weeks every day and wore them with this harness for about 10 plus hours a day every day during that time. I did not realize just how good this design was until about a week or more into the hunts. At that time I ran into my room looking for my glasses as we were about to leave and I could not find them. I realized after a moment I had them on! There is Zero wear and tear on your neck or back. The weight is carried very little by any one muscle group and is spread out like a snowshoe over your whole upper body. They bounce to a bare minimum when you walk of run and the additional tension in the elastic aids to a large degree with a steady hold.
I doubt I will be without these glasses again as long as this Harness is attached to them. The only drawback to bigger heavy fantastic optics was carrying them. Not anymore guys, this Optics strap system solves every problem with bigger optics. They look strange with the jumble of straps and adjustments but once you put them on you nearly (literally) forget you have them on. As a side benefit once you have them on it's very difficult for anyone to borrow them to look through. It makes them 100% yours without sharing them with the group of people who forgot or did not want to lug their glasses around their neck on a long trip. They also do not rub on a sunburned neck with this system. I have no noise concerns or durability issues either. They work great and are worth every penny to anyone who will be wearing glasses for day long trips or weeks at a time.
Several companies are making these harnesses now and having their names put on them. I'm not 100% certain who makes them. Mine say Swarovski but I have seen the exact same ones with the name Butler Creek, and I think Crooked creek outfitters as well. Call Chris or Email him at www.swfa.com for more information. He may still have some in stock.
