For Immediate Release

Project on Private Timberlands Receives ODFW Grant
SWEET HOME – More than 410,000 acres of private timberlands in Linn County will remain open to the public for hunting with help from a two-year $20,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Access and Habitat Program.
The Access and Habitat Program funds will contribute toward hiring a Linn County deputy during deer and elk hunting seasons to patrol the area located east of Lebanon.
The Access and Habitat Program has helped fund this project since 1997. In addition to the A&H Program grant, the Linn Forest Protective Association, composed of project landowners, are contributing $973,900 and the Linn County Sheriff’s Department is providing $22,800. The Linn Small Woodlands Association is donating $300.
Law enforcement patrols during hunting seasons have successfully minimized vandalism, illegal garbage dumping and other violations, allowing private landowner to continue their tradition of allowing public hunting access to their properties.
Created by the Oregon Legislature in 1993, the A&H Program is funded by a $2 surcharge on hunting licenses. Funds raised by the program are distributed through grants to individual and corporate landowners, conservation organizations, and others for cooperative wildlife habitat improvement and hunter access projects throughout the state.
For more information on the Access and Habitat Program, contact program coordinator Susan Barnes at (503) 872-5260, extension 5349.
