I am going up to SF in a couple of weeks, and I have a couple days off so I thought I would try and hunt some pigs. I really only want to do public land. I realize that my chances are not very good, but I just want to hike around and see if I can see some pigs. I am just looking for a place about an hour or so outside of the city where I can park and scout it out and give it a whirl. Is there such a place?? Any public land around the area?? Please help me out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Nearest public land to San Francisco is Lake Sonoma, about an hour and a half to the north on 101. Very few opportunities for any type of hunting, on public or private land, near San Francisco.

Archery only is perfect as that is what I will be using. I have seen Lake Sonoma a lot around here. Can anyone hunt there or is it a special hunt area? Thanks for the info.

Check in at the visitor center and fallow the rules and boundries.
Enjoy!

Lake Sonoma is the nearest to the sinful city by the bay.

Lake Sonoma is pretty much your only option for public land pig hunting anywhere near the Bay area. It holds pigs, but the odds for success are very low. Something like 2-3%. Still, I continue to go myself. You'll see tons of sign, especially now that it's raining, and you'll see some beautiful scenery.

People have pulled pigs out of the Cache Creek BLM land, but I'm not sure if it's open for hunting right now. Anyone know? That's also a pretty place to hike around, even more so in the cool wet season. You can also eavesdrop on the resident elk herd there if you're lucky.

Other than that, it's pay-to-play.

Good luck!

Anywhere politicians gather you can bet there will be a lot of pork. Try City Hall.

Has anyone been to Cashe Creek BLM? I was going to take a trip last fall but was told to pigs are very rare in the area so I decided not to go. I understand it does hold a few turkeys though. Maybe time to go "scout."

If you want to watch behavior rather than hunt, try Joseph D. Grant County Park in Santa Clara County.

There are pigs at Cache Creek but they are tough to hunt. Seem to move around a lot, never returning to the place they were the day before. Saw them when I was bowhunting deer, ran to Williams to buy a hog tag, and didn't find them again the rest of the A zone deer season.

Cache Creek should be open now for hogs.
