Public land off hwy 16 Cache Creek

I'm going to be in Guinda off highway 16 this weekend. I'm thinking about taking a day to look for pigs, or at least walk around carrying my rifle.

Can anyone point me to some public land near there that has slightly greater than a snowball's chance at holding pigs?

I've searched the forum a bit for cache creek, but i'm not familiar with alot of the areas mentioned.

The snakes are out, and I just seen two that got run over on the road behind my mother's place. To be on the safe side, I would recommend staying on a wide trail. The Yolohiker Site gives the most complete trail informaiton for that area:

Click on the top red bar where it says, "Trail Maps", and pick a hiking trail. Each trail has its own web page complete with GPS download. Get yourself some Snakeproof Gaiters.

Some nosy cookies

Caution: My AVG Virus software is blocking 17 cookies from the YoloHiker website. That really makes me wonder??? Anyway, I picked up this complaint about Cache Creek from another forum:

"The Yolo County Water District has cut the flows in Cache , which WAS the finest Smallmouth Bass Stream in California . The Streambed is totally dry starting just West of 505 , all the way downstream"

I didn't get out to hunt this weekend. Talked to some of the farmers, pigs definitely are a nuisance for them, but no luck convincing them to let me at them.

The creek is low and warm, something about not much water being released from the damn. the rafting outfitters weren't running any trips this weekend.

My brother does some mechanic work for one of the rafting companies and he said that there will only be enough water relased for six weeks of rafting. Yolo County has also shut down low water bridge, they say it's becuase it unsafe to cross! You can walk across the bridge but it's a long hike to any good hunting area. If you head up that way try the horse camp a little further up HWY 16.

As for Cache Creek having water flowing in it past Capay/Esparto, it can probably be jumped over anytime past June.
