Physically, I worked twice as hard last year as this year to find sheds. Last year I had 50 hours in before finding my first shed = small chewed up 4 point my sons found while trout fishing. This year, I searched a lot to locate groups of deer and then went to local houses and ask permission to find sheds - which many gave me the nod (I knocked on doors as if I were hunting and it paid off.) I have put in close to 20 hours and have found seven sheds, four in one night, much better then last year! I was told by one farmer that the only way I could shed hunt was if I came back and shot as many deer as legal in the fall - Not bad for 15 minutes of 'work' or scouting! Although; I didn't find a shed on his land, there is sign everywhere - I rollerskated on deer droppings all afternoon! The idea of hunting sheds like we hunt deer is not a new concept, I used to do it regularly but am new to this area. Last season I had vast land to walk but very little of it was condusive to sheds, whereas; this season I focused in on the deer and then gained more permission = more sheds. If you're walking and daydreaming about everything but finding a shed, please give this strategy a try if you have'nt already - you may be satisfied?
