Bugle's Picture Guide to Quartering an Elk Without Gutting It
You may have seen this. I found this alternative to gutting a couple years ago and tried it in 2000 on an archery cow I took. I was able to do it back in camp, but wanted to try it. The only down side is that you do loose some of your total meat yield - plus the heart/liver. But really handy if you are hunting an early archery season in hot temps. I thought I might try it on the next bear.
