I was drawn or the Sunday ONLY hunt for the Chimineas Unit. This is the drive in hunt. But I am not sure if its worth it. What I mean is it's an awful long drive and being the Sunday only hunt the place will have been hunted hard by all the hunters that got there on Saturday. I have never even been close the this part of the state so I dont know what to expect. So what I guess I am trying to get at is this place large enough to accomidate all the hunters and are the game populations good enough for an enjoyable hunt?

The Chimeneas ranch is a 14,000+ acre DFG ranch. It is more than big enough for all the hunters drawn. However the concentrations/density of hogs you have to call the DFG local office for that area to give you the info. I applied but did not get drawn for this Chimeneas ranch hunt. The last time I drove by the highway 166 frontage to the ranch it looked very dry(in August as I remember), but the recent heavy rains may bring up tender green shoots & grass for the hogs. Good Luck & God Bless. larrysogla.

hey scott and gnn, between my buddie and me we have made 6 of the last 7 draws at chimineas. we only have about a 40 min drive, so we are very lucky seeing as you all are in so cal. the ranch is worth the drive just to see the sights, it is beautiful. in our last 4 hunts [ we hunt mostly quail and rabbit, but come prepared for pig] only 1 pig has been taken, i think it was an irs guy fron santa maria. the bird hunting is great, we saw some signs of pig, but its been very dry up intill now, one word of caution, have 4wd and good rubber, when it gets wet, look out!!!!! good luck and good hunting, dave
