I have a couple friends that live in the Lockwood, King City area. I've hunted pigs with them a few times on land they have access to use, some cattle ranches, and grape orchards etc... These guys arent guides just locals that have friends with land etc... We've seen Hogs but the way these guys like to hunt (driving around) IMO isnt the best way to get a pig. Like I said we've seen pigs but by the time you get out of your truck they've heard you and are long gone. I'm more of a spot and stock type of hunter. Anyway I've been getting calls from my friends to come on up to hunt, but with gas prices so high and me really wanting to get my first pig, I'm thinking about using a guide. Now I've been reading alot about who you guys think are the better guides and who you use.

I see that alot of the hog guides charge about the same $500-$600 for a two day guided pig hunt. My question is if you get a hog in the first 2 hours on the first day of your hunt are you done ? or can you keep hunting for a second pig ? Being from Southern California and the price of gas now days, I dont want to do a turn and burn, I want to spend a 2-3 day weekend hunting.

I saw one guy that says two day hunt for $500 and a 3rd day for $300 more. It says on his web-site that if you get a pig the 2nd day you can hunt a 3rd day for $300. So again my question is if you hire a guide for a 2 day hunt can you shoot 2 pigs ? or if your hunting 3 days can you shoot 3 pigs ? I would have my own place to stay, so I would just be hiring the guide for his daily service and his access to the the land.

Lurediver hit it on the head. Each and every guide has their own price schedule and what you get depends on who you book with. You should check with whomever you book with before you book to see what they provide and what their rules are. DO NOT ever take what you read here and assume it is correct. For example. if you post up on this board that you want to take a quadrunner on your hunt and somebody else says that would be a good idea because the ranch is great for quads, you had better talk to the outfitter or guide first.

I have used guides to hunt wild pig in the kings city area. My guide was Mark Williams from Hog Wild. This is not the Hogs wild outfitt. He is an excellent guide and has great access to many ranches in the area. Usually a guide will quote you for one pig. Trophy fees may apply if its a big boar. If you desire a second pig after already taking one, most guides will offer it at a discounted rate. Don't assume anything and always ask questions and be clear as to what you are booking and how much the hunt will cost per person. What I liked about Mark is that he works hard to get you on pigs and is extremely knowlegable. I booked my hunt in advance and stayed at a hotel in kings city where we made arrangements to meet befor the hunt. Nice and easy. One of my most memorable hunts was with Mark on my first pig hunt. I still dream of the beautifull ranch that we hunted. We hunted hard to get pigs on this ranch but it was well worth the effort. Get in good physical condition before your hunt. Pig hunting on certain ranches can be physically demanding. Most of my hunts were two day hunts. We hunted hard to get pigs for our hunting group. I have not hunted with Mark for some years now. I believe his phone number is available via this website on the hunt information page for wild pig hunting. Good luck.

Most will offer a second pig option for a reduced rate. You'll just have to ask. I've heard quotes everywhere from $100-50% off. Most hunts are Friday pm - Sun am and yes you are done once you shoot your pig.
