Shut up, cell phones.

A company in Charlotte, North Carolina, just came up with a legal way to muffle the ringing of a cell phone.

Unlike jammers, which are illegal in the United States because they disrupt cellular phone service, BlueLinx's Q-Zone technology uses a Bluetooth radio to lower the ring tone of a cell phone. Once the phone's owner steps out of the vicinity where Q-Zone is installed, ringing volume resumes to normal.

BlueLinx is now selling the technology to carriers and cell-phone manufacturers and directly to businesses that want to keep cell phones from ringing in meeting rooms and other public areas.
