Rain ?

Being afirst time hog hunter,does anyone have tips to hunting hogs in the rain? Fhl pressadents weekend hope to see ya there.

The dirt roads turn into instant grease like goop. Bring some tow straps and plenty of money for the FHL tow guy to pull you out. The hills will be slippery and muddy. The pigs as far as the previous posts go are not bothered by a drizzle. A pouring rain probably will NOT be very good for any hunting. Bring an army poncho, as I keep my rifle inside my poncho and it stays dry even in a pouring rain sitting all night in a treestand in Texas. Plan on slipping and falling flat as those hills will be almost impossible to climb. I would stay away from those hills when wet and try to stay on the flat areas. Watch out for fast current rise on those rivers, vehicle crossing and foot crossing. Stuff plenty of napkins on your pocket to constantly wipe dry your scope and binoc's. As a precaution get the phone # of the FHL tow guy from the hunter check in station so in case you get stuck you can just call him from your spot. Don't forget your cell, radio and flashlight. Leave the radio frequency # and cell # visible in a note in the front seat for them to contact you in case of an emergency(you can bust a leg on those greased hills).
Pray before you leave the house, you never know when the covering will mean the difference between disaster and deliverance even just on the drive up on the freeway. God Bless and keep your powder dry.

Well sheeeeeeeeiiiiiiit, the way larrysogla puts it, I dont think I'd go there in the rain!! Sure sounds like a lot of trouble to have to go thru if it is raining.

It's not that bad, but can it can get that way if it does pour hard. You have to use common sense most of the time.

It does get nasty if you don't stay on the pavement. I speak from experience and there are others here who have had some adventures as well.
That said, it should be a very good weekend to hunt. When it's light rain or overcast, the pigs are out longer in the open feeding and moving about.
Look for sign and trails, if you see tracks follow them, consentrate on areas that have permanent water and private ranches nearby(with the food), look for holes in the perimeter fences and stake out an ambush spot.
Just be sure to follow the rules to the letter, as it's a military base and they mean business, be safe and have fun...

That is true about the military meaning business. I speak from experience. My group and I had got lost in our TA and met up with an MP. He let us go with a warning, but did everything but a cavity search before he let us go.

Just play by the rules and you won't get burned.

Rain is the devil, chopper. Don't even consider going out in that evil stuff. That's just crazy talk.
