About 1,500 trophy-sized rainbow trout, totaling about 9,000 pounds, were delivered to Caples Lake in Alpine County this week as part of a restocking effort.

The lake, owned by the El Dorado Irrigation District, was drawn down last summer to replace damaged gates in the main dam. The lake has been refilling, and district officials reported it was at 93 percent of capacity earlier this week.

Fish restocking began in late May. In addition to the trophy fish, the California Department of Fish and Game released 2,000 pounds of catchable brook trout into the lake Wednesday, the district reported.

The district will continue to restock the lake through September.
