A few days ago, Paulc posted about the ranch in Parkfield that Boaring Experiences has.

Bad news and good news. The bad is that Boaring Experiences lost the lease on the ranch. The good news, for me at least lol, is that Golden Ram picked it up. Can't wait for them to get it ready and open.

BigDog, how has your Golden Ram experience been?  WHat do they charge for a memebership to hunt big game?  Thinking about joining them or Wilderness Unlimited.  Wu has as signup fee that pretty big.  DOes GOlden Ram have somehing similar?

Great news for you BigDog!

Bubba, I've heard a lot good things about Golden Ram and very little bad.  I've heard a LOT of bad things about WU and very little good about it.  I looked into it and wasn't impressed.  There have been some WU discussions on the boards and they haven't been to glowing for WU.  Hope this helps.

Regards,
Paul

I'd like to hear more about the Golden Ram.  It doesn't seem like they have a lot of pig properties.  Does this make it competitive to get on those properties?

I don't know if you guys are getting responses from BigDog via email, but just in case he hasn't been able to ring in...  his computer won't allow him to post responses on the list for some whacked out reason.  So if you post a question to him and he doesn't respond, drop him an email.

Just thought I'd post this so no one thought he was blowing them off.

Hey, sorry. Stupid computer.

I have only been a GR member for going on two years. But so far, it seems to be pretty good. It is like any club/refuge. You have to learn the ropes and get your reservations in before the spots are gone.

They now have three pig properties.
One up by Lake Sonoma. I went up there Monday. I saw several pigs hanging. Saw one alive and on a hill about half a mile a way. Stalked him until I was about 80 yards away but by that time, he had crossed a fence and was on another ranch.
They have one down near pinnacles. I talked to some guys on Monday and they said that there are a bunch taken on it every week.
The third is this Parkfield ranch. I have been told by two different people that Boaring Experiences was taking about 100 pigs a year off the ranch. I still want to talk to the GR owner to verify that.
They also have deer properties and duck properties. I was pretty busy last year so I did not get to use them much but I did see a nice buck on one ranch and got some ducks in one blind.
I did a lot of research before deciding on GR over WU. It seemed that even though WU had a few more properties, the take was about the same. And there is a EXTREME difference in their attitude. GR's friendly and laid back versus WU's agressive and bad mouthing the competition. I hunt for enjoyment and not competition.

Anyhow. I can't wait for this new one to open.

Dave
