Just wondering how low a number it takes to get drawn? I'm not asking for your whole number but what was the first 2 or 3 numbers? mine was .07****........I'm guessing the ultimate number would be .000001.........if this is so then was I the 700,000 person in line for a tag? not good odds.
The numbers are assigned by a computer, they do not represent the number of tags, just random numbers. Mine for elk was .05xxxx and I still did not get a tag. Depends on the other random numbers and what tag you chose.
I understand it's not the number of tags.........but if it's the number of people and starts at .000001 then you had 500,000 people in front of you.....no wonder you didn't get drawn..........the number gets me puzzled...........I've seen people who said their number was .6*******..........that would put it in the millions...........or does the computer pick a number and just because you have .05**** doesn't mean there are numbers lower than yours?
I don't think those numbers mean anything other than a way for DFG to track the tags. If you put if for a certain tag, and had 700,000 people a head of you, then I had 600,000 people a head of me on my tag choice. I don't think they sell that many hunting licenses per year. I think it's just for tracking purpose's, for what I don't know.
Also, I totaled up ALL applicants for Elk tags in 2005 and it comes to 24,602. So see, your odds are better then you thought
Just wanted to try to clarify that random numbers are not based on the number of applicants. They are generated by a computer so there could be no one with number 1, first lowest number could be 000020, then the next number could be 000100. They are randomly generated, that is my understanding. The lower the better, maybe one year I will get a low enough number.
